Indications:

Liposem (Saroglitazar Magnesium) is indicated for the management of:

  • Dyslipidemia, particularly diabetic dyslipidemia

  • Hypertriglyceridemia in type 2 diabetic patients not controlled with statin therapy alone

  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) (off-label use in some regions)


Pharmacology:

Saroglitazar is a dual PPAR (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor) α/γ agonist.

  • PPAR-α activation helps reduce triglycerides and LDL cholesterol

  • PPAR-γ activation improves insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism
    Together, it addresses both lipid abnormalities and insulin resistance, offering a comprehensive metabolic benefit in patients with type 2 diabetes and associated lipid disorders.


Dosage & Administration:

  • Standard dosage: 2 mg once daily, taken orally

  • May be taken with or without food

  • Dosage adjustments are generally not needed in mild to moderate hepatic/renal impairment


Drug Interactions:

  • Minimal CYP450 interaction; low risk of drug-drug interactions

  • Can be used safely with statins, metformin, and other antidiabetic agents
